After a rafting accident that left one person dead and Grady's cousin, Finn, in a coma, Grady has been consumed by guilt. When he visits Finn in hospital he meets Micah, someone who wants to give back to coma patients after being one himself. The instant attraction between them leaves little doubt that they're meant for each other, but both of them have baggage that they need to move past before they can truly move on.
I haven't read many gay romance books, mainly because I'm straight and female so the male/female romance is more relateable for me, as opposed to anything else. However I've read several of Aicher's books before (including one m/m one) and so I knew that I'd enjoy it and be in safe hands.
Compared to the other books of Aicher's that I've read, The Harder He Falls, is BDSM light. One of the major themes is how Grady sees himself and his potential role as a submissive. It's a little flirting with the line really. There are some moments where the two of them dabble but they are just a normal couple for the majority of the book, and they had great chemistry.
Both Grady and Micah had issues that they had to deal with, Grady's past had left him drifting and a little bit trust wary, whereas Micah had medical issues to deal with. The two of them worked well together in a way that negated their weaknesses and it really moved their relationship on.
This was a good read, The romance was basically the same as a m/f one for me, just with the sex cenes being a bit different, but Aicher creates great characters, and it's them that really get into the reader's head!
