Valerie has lived in her town for 5 years, and yet she has absolutely no recollection of who she is. Having made a friend in her roommate, Molly, and a love interest in Payton, one of the doctors that saved her, life seems to be becoming normal. Until three men from her past turn up, and her flashbacks reveal things about her she'd never even considered. With each of the men claiming a piece of her heart, its hard for Valerie to know which one is truely hers...

The Valkyrie is one of those books where the action takes a front seat, while providing a good background to the rest of the story and twisting it all together to make an engaging page turner! I couldn't stop reading The Valkyrie and that was for a multitude of reasons.

I liked the way that Valerie's memory loss was dealt with. Though she couldn't remember who she was, she had good gut feelings about things and instinctively knew others which made it work with the story rather than having her always having to be told who she was. Even though she could only remember the past 5 years of her life, she was a well formed and confident character, which didn't have to be the case.

The men in the story and the romance surrounding them wasn't quite so straight forward. Payton was the main love interest for Valerie, but even then it was complicated. When Gregory, Lucha and Kerr turn up things get more complicated, and though  Valerie feels a pull towards them, she doesn't automatically jump into bed with them. I am very intrigued as to her past with the three of them. Well and her past in general.

I also liked the fact that there was a female friendship at the centre of the book, it was clear that Molly and Valerie had differences of opinion, but they were friends through and through. It made the friendship seem real and added another level to the story.

I'm looking forward to learning more about Valerie, and the rest of the characters in the book!
