Book: The Stubborn Lord by Michelle M Pillow

I received a copy of The Stubborn Lord, book 6 of Dragon Lords, in exchange for my review.

Kendall Haven knew that her father had a problem, but not that he would go as far as to use her as collateral for his gambling debts. Not knowing how long she's been away from home, Kendall finds herself on Qurixilian and married to Lord Alek, the second Duke of Draig. Alek knows that Kendall will be his, but is left heartbroken by the idea that she is so desperate to leave him. Discovering just why she wants to leave changes everything, and Alek has to decide what is the most important, his duty or his heart.

Nothing is ever simple for these Draig men! None of them seem to have a happy marriage straight off. I'd feel sorry for them except that I know it'll all work out in the end! The second half od the Dragon Lords series does seem to have a different tone from it, with the characters separated more from their royal cousins and the threat of the Var, instead with the threat coming form off planet. This adds another dimension to the story.

Also this is the first time that any of the Draig went into space on page (they had before but not actively during the progress of the story!) This added a more 'spacey' element to The Stubborn Lord that the other books haven't really had. I liked seeing the rest of the universe around them, as well as fleshing out the story for Alek and Kendall.

There was a mystery left unsolved in this book; that of Margot. Now I understand that unsolved mysteries can annoy some readers, but I felt that there was enough foreshadowing in the book, as well as a faith in the author that the mystery will be solved in a future book or a future series...I'm not worried about Margot's fate!

Kendall was also the first woman who had actually been forced into Galaxy Brides. The others had often had extreme circumstances that had forced their hands, but ultimately had chosen it; Kendall was sold to Galaxy Brides. It does make me question a bit what the ethics of that are, but that was just another dimension between it.

I'm still really enjoying this series, I hope it continues like this!
