Book: A Flirtacious Rendezvous by Cecilia Gray

I received a copy of A Flirtatious Rendezvous, book 4 of The Gentleman Next Door, from Netgalley in exchange for my review.

Lady Hanna Morton has been in love with her next door neighbour, Hayden Banks, for years and has even told him so. When her father announces that he is moving to the country, and Hanna is moving to stay with the Banks’ next door, Hayden’s mother sees it as an opportunity to match make. Challenging Hayden to see who can win the most proposals for Hanna, Lady Banks sets of a series of events that may just win Hanna her heart’s desire.

This is the last of The Gentleman Next Door novellas (at least for now) and I’m sad to see them go. All four of these novellas have been light, fluffy and quick reads, just the kind that you need sometimes, and A Flirtatious Rendezvous was no different. It is exactly what you expect from a Regency romance.

Unlike the other female leads in the series, Hanna has not previously been a character (though there was a link vaguely between her and the Abernathys in the previous book) and that did put her a little on the back foot. But I also thought that there was more time spent exploring her as a character. Hanna was your classic outspoken Regency woman, like many of the others in this series.

I really liked the fact that Hayden wasn’t a rake though. He was the other Regency trope in fact; the not interested in romance type. In Hayden’s case the interest was in mathematics, and he wished to prove something about Prime Numbers having pairs.

The romance between Hanna and Hayden just felt sweet more than anything else. There was clearly something between them, but it was something that had grown over a long time and resulted in them knowing each other well, and so being able to make sweet gestures towards each other.

This has been an enjoyable series to read!

A Flirtatious Rendezvous counts towards Winter COYER, 2015 Netgalley & EdelweissChallenge & 3 Historical Romances in 3 Weeks COYER mini-challenge.
