Book: The Uninvited by Jill Cooper

I received a copy of The Uninvited in exchange for my review.

Since defeating yet another enemy, Natalie and her friends have discovered that their town is being overrun by vampires. Having to fight them off at every point, Natalie's school work and romantic life are beginning to slip, but she has more to worry about than that...the vampires seem to be evolving, and are no longer constrained to the mythology that seemed to hold until now...

The Uninvited is a novella and takes place after the events of book 2 (which I've read) and book 3 (which I haven't). I wouldn't advise reading The Uninvited before book 2 as it mentions, and relies, on information from the first two books.

This was an interesting read for me for a couple of reasons. The first being that, though I didn't struggle with the books themselves, it took me a while to read them, I think it was because of my mood though because I did like them. But The Uninvited dragged me in quickly and kept me turning pages, properly igniting the excitement that I knew was there for this series.

One thing I will say though is that if you haven't read the first two books, and so didn't know about the two alternative worlds, then there is a scene in The Uninvited that might be difficult to grasp, as being a novella it doesn't really delve into deep explanations. It worked in terms of understanding with the background though!

I was slightly surprised to only get a view of Real-Natalie, and not both. In the previous books the two Natalies had been becoming more and more intertwined and this installement didn't actually have that so much, which has made me very intrigued to see what will happen in book 3.

I loved the fact that Michelle, Tristan and Marcus are more involved now, and have reasonably got better at slaying alongside Natalie, it felt like a team and I liked the comarade and the friendship that was there!

jillcooperAbout the Author:

I could write this in the third person. I could tell you what I like, where I was born, and what my favorite things are.

But instead, I'll say I don't want to write like everyone else. I don't want to craft stories you've read a thousand times before. I want my novels to be a cinematic experience, blending themes, genres, and situations unlike any you've ever read.

I want to break the rules. I want you to break out in a cold sweat as you read my books out of fear, love, and excitement. I want my books to be an experience. When you finish, I want you to feel something. Good or bad.

If you do, then I'll have succeeded. If not, I'll keep trying. Website | Twitter | Facebook | Newsletter | Literary Addicts | Goodreads | Tsu
