Blitz: Black Dahlia by Vivian Winslow

I received a copy of Black Dahlia in exchange for my review.

Knowing that the worst could happen is bad enough, but when Dahlia's surfer husband dies it happens. With her whole life ripped away from her, Dahlia slips into depression, and even when dragged away to a tropical island by her twin sister, Lily, and their friend, Violet, she sinks further into depression. Until she meets Kai. Even though he's a property manager on the island, Kai is running from his own demons there, and can see that Dahlia is doing the same. Little did Dahlia expect that she'd find a connection with anyone on the island, but it might just be the thing that saves her...

The Gilded Flower series continues, and I was being shocked from the very first page. Whatever I expected to happen next, and I wasn't too sure what that was, Shane dying was not what I expected in the slightest. My heart broke for poor Dahlia, particularly after the heartache of only just having found him.

What I have liked about this series from the beginning is the 'realness' to it. Instead of finding someone that will love her forever straight away, like many authors would do, Dahlia effectively has a rebound (well after some accidental drunk sex that didn't really make her feel better). It just seemed like a much more realistic reaction, and that's what I like from my characters.

I must say though, I'm now even more intrigued by Violet than I was before. She's been mysterious from book 1 and now (in book 5) there's been even more mystery added on...I'm intrigued.

The chemistry between Kai and Dahlia was interesting. Though they were definitely physically compatible, and the scenes between them were charged with energy, there was more to it than that. It didn't feel like the chemistry between them was romantic, rather it was platonic, and even they said it themselves. I thought that it was a very fine line that the author walked down, and that that fine line worked well.
