Book: Sweet Contradiction by Peggy Martinez

I received a copy of Sweet Contradiction in exchange for my review.

Ever since her 9th birthday Beth has been counting the days until she turned 18 and was able to leave her small home town and her extremely strict and religious parents behind. 4 years later she's returning back to Salem to see her best friend who is going through a particularly rough patch. The last thing that Beth expects on returning to her small town is to find the man of her dreams. Matthew Wright is the son of a preacher and doesn't want anything more than he wants Beth. But he won't settle for a quick fling with her before she leaves, instead he wants the real deal with her and will do anything he can to win her.

This is a great book, definitely worth a read. Primarily Sweet Contradiction is a romance, though it also has other things going on with the various characters that make it so much more. Religion played a part in the book, but I think that it is important to mention that the religion is in no way preachy, instead it was just a part of the background and lives of the characters, and I thought that it worked well without being overbearing.

What I really liked about the relationship between Beth and Matt was that there was definite chemistry there between them but there was no jumping into bed or graphic sex scenes. Instead what you have is a grown up relationship between two characters that didn't just revolve about sex, and at the beginning it wasn't about sex at all. I thought that it was great that the author managed to capture that.

The other great thing about this book was the friendship between Jen and Beth. You could feel the affection and the relationship between them. You could really believe the friendship and even better, they didn't feel the need to talk about men all the time (plus they did some good sounding baking!) Jen's part in the book did also have emotional consequences for the story that had nothing to do with the romance.

What I want to know more about though is the relationship between Hunter and Jen, which seemed like there was a lot going on between them that couldn't be seen. Plus there are other things I want to know about!

This was a fun read, with emotional and moving parts to the story, definitely a good read and an adult romance with overbearing sex scenes.
