Blog Tour: Falling For The Pirate by Amber Lin

I received a copy of Falling for the Pirate in exchange for my review.

When he was younger, Nate witnessed the murder of his parents, and was sent to prison for stealing by the same man, Hargate. Wanting nothing more than to exact his revenge, Nate is now the owner of the company that has bought out Hargate Shipping. In all his plans for revenge Nate never imagined that Juliana Hargate would end up in his home not remembering who she was, or that she could change his plans for good. Juliana is convinced of her father's innocence and goes looking for proof in his office before being startled by Nathaniel. As she slowly struggles to get her memory back she finds herself falling for the man she had termed her pirate, and is desperate to pay him back for his kindness.

I don't think Falling for the Pirate was quite what I expected. Probably mostly because there were no actual pirates. Nate was a perfectly respectable Captain on a boat and it was only Juliana herself that thought of him as a pirate, and that was more of an endearment in her own head than anything else. Even if Falling for the Pirate wasn't what I expected though I found that I loved this book!

The two characters seemed to be a lot deeper than many others, and they looked past the outside and looked into the person. So much so that I wasn't actually ever sure how Juliana would react to discovering the truth, about her father and about Nate. But when her reaction came I wasn't actually surprised by what it was (though I didn't know until that point) because the author had taken her time to develop Nate and Juliana's relationship beyond the physical side of it. As such their relationship didn't feel rushed at all.

There were also really well thought out and interesting back stories, particularly for the two main characters, but for some of the others as well. When they told their stories to one another it became clear how they became the character that they are now and that they have worked for what they have. This was particularly evident in Nate's work with orphaned boys, which demonstrated his character and served as an interesting side plot.

Nate himself was a fantastic character, and I found him to be full of witty one liners, so much so that I am really intrigued as to the rest of the men of fortune and their stories!
