Blog Tour & Giveaway: How to Seduce a Band Geek by Cassie Mae

I received a copy of How to Seduce a Band Geek, book 2 of the How To series, in exchange for my review.

Sierra learnt from her big sister Zoe not to pretend to be who she isn't, but taking that advice led to a reputation, and not one that gets her anything good. And Sierra has an eye on a boy; Levi. To Sierra it seems that Levi gets on with everybody, and that he is the only boy in school who doesn't really have a clique...except that he does. With the help of Levi's sister, Brea, she learns more about him, only to figure out that she wants him to tell her of his own free will. But with all the stuff going on at home, Levi doesn't want to let anyone in, even if that means Sierra too.

As with the previous book How to Date a Nerd I absolutely loved this book, I think that it highlights romance and school in a way that resonates with you, even if our schools in the UK are nowhere near that cliquey (or at least they weren't 4 years ago when I left!) I had one issue, and it is so insignificant most people would probably not even notice/think it was wrong, and its probably just because of where/when I was taught...but every time the word 'flutist' appeared I couldn't help but mentally shudder. It may be that it is a real term, but our school was highly traditional (as in as far as being a School Orchestra rather than a School Band) and we were always told to refer to ourselves as flautists (which actually seems a bit pretentious probably!)

There was a complete contrast between Zoe in the first book and Sierra in this one, though they are sisters they have two different personalities, namely that Sierra would probably be considered as more of an every girl than Zoe (as Zoe is a massive nerd and doesn't care...nor should she). But there was also the fact that Sierra seemed to be more accepting of who she was, and considering Zoe's pep talks in How to Date a Nerd that should have been the case!

Speaking of Zoe...How to Seduce a Band Geek is set two years after the end of How to Date a Nerd, which surprised me slightly when I first started reading, but actually works really well. There isn't much of the aftermath of Zoe's 'social suicide'/highly romantic this is who I really am, well other than seeing her and Zak being really happy with each other (and no longer at school).

I thought that there was a bit more of an emphasis on friendship in this book, particularly on Sierra's relationships with Adam and Sydney, and even to some extent with Levi before they got really into each other. The dynamic with Sydney was interesting, namely because she seemed to be the kind of girl that would do just about anything to get into the top social circle, and actually did something pretty bad that shocked me. And then there's Adam who really was a friend and stuck by the two girls, even when one of them had done something really bad.

These books have been really enjoyable, the main characters both went on a journey to work out who they really are and find their man on the way.

Summary from Goodreads:
Sierra Livingston’s got it bad for her sister’s best friend, Levi Mason—the boy who carries his drumsticks in his pocket, marches with the school’s band, and taps his feet to whatever beat runs through his head. Sierra racks her brain for ways to impress the sexy drummer, but the short skirts and bursting cleavage don’t seem to cut it.

When Sierra gets paired with Levi’s sister, Brea, for a mentorship program, they strike a deal. In exchange for Sierra keeping her mouth shut about Brea ditching the program, Brea lets Sierra dig for more info on Levi to help get the guy of her dreams.

But when Sierra discovers Levi no longer plays the drums, his family has moved into a trailer, and he’s traded in his Range Rover for a baby blue moped, Sierra’s not sure if she can go through with violating his privacy. She’ll have to find the courage to ask him straight out—if he’s willing to let her in—and explore other ways to seduce the school’s band geek.
