Having reached the community, Tess' thoughts focus on the past and on the people that she lost, including pining for James, the man she loves and a Chosen One. With only her friend Henry for company the two of them grow closer, though Tess still can't forget James, nor her sister Louisa who she left behind. Making friends with the people around the community is difficult, particularly because of their differences, though Tess does seem to make a friend in Lockwood. But with odd threats and messages keep turning up and Tess knows that she needs to do something to save her sister.
I really enjoyed the first book, Chosen Ones, and was really excited to read the next one, though because of the previous book I really didn't know what to expect (the story took a couple of turns that I didn't really have any specific expectations for this one) and I must say going in with that view meant that I enjoyed this book even more than the first!
Tess was a fairly strong character in the first book, though she did have some questionable motives at some points, but in Naturals she seems to have grown a lot as a character. She is much stronger than she was before (and understandably so) but you can also read the changes that happened because she had felt love and been loved. Aka an increase of compassion and understanding.
I absolutely love the way that the author has tied in the stories of authors and playwrights of the past (probably helped because I've read the vast majority of the books in question, the exception being Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice). The mirrors in the story really helped too, especially because Tess recognised the mirrors, commented on them, and even mentioned when they didn't quite match up.
I loved Naturals, so far this series just gets better, and I am really looking forward to reading the final book, Creators.

Heartbroken but more determined than ever after a tense showdown in the woods, sixteen-year-old Tess once again returns to the safety of her community of Isolationists. Bolstered by new alliances and desperate to protect those she loves, this time she knows she can return stronger and more powerful than ever to take back what is hers.
As she trains in combat and grows more confident, Tess receives beautiful letters penned by her forbidden love, the chosen one James, from his prison in Templeton. He is now serving as a bodyguard to the creators—the team of scientists who created artificial life in the first place. And what he has discovered about the true origin of the illness that halted natural life could change everything. Enemy will become ally and death will bring new hope in this stunning conclusion to Tiffany Truitt’s epic Lost Souls trilogy.
Tiffany Truitt received her MA in literature from Old Dominion University.
