Blog Tour: Skylar Wishes by Tina L Hook

I received a copy of Skylar Wishes in exchange for my review.

Alina, Skylar and Grace each live with powers of their own, but Alina has discovered a new one, the ability to switch bodies with someone, and she chooses Skylar, a woman who she has always envied. Skylar seems to have everything, the looks, the confidence and the man, but when Alina keeps switching bodies with her she comes to realise that maybe Darren doesn't love her for her. And add to that the love she feels growing for the man she knows while in Alina's body, Wells. In the end Skylar has a difficult decision to make, the hardest decision she has to make; her own happiness, or someone else's.

Wow, I absolutely loved the story, and the characters, just everything. I think its safe to say that all the way through the book I found that I much preferred Skylar as a character to Alina, there just seemed to be something off about her, and I didn't particularly like Darren either, so basically I was Skylar and Wells all the way, despite the fact that Wells didn't know her as Skylar. The other characters were just as present, Emmy took on a large personality as soon as she was introduced, and Grace and Bennett seemed to grow as a couple because of what they went through.

But there were some absolutely heart breaking moments in this book. Most notably the last scene before the comet takes over, and the possible future. Not to mention the results of Grace's biopsy. I do feel that I've just been dragged over an emotional hurdle!

The powers themselves were there but I didn't think that they were the main point of the story (even if two of the main characters switched bodies for most of the book). I think ultimately it was the idea of soul mates, particularly when Wells starts seeing the difference between Alina and Skylar even though they look the same.

The one thing I'm not sure about is whether or not I want to read the other book, and other possible books in the series. You don't need the first one to understand this book, but there was something captivating and magical about the way this book was written that says to me that it doesn't need a back story, or a future story for that matter.

  About the book:

Grace is the only one who remembers the truth—that comets are the source of extraordinary destinies. Since their last night together, all memory of their comets and their old powers has abandoned Skylar and Alina. All that is left is Alina’s enduring envy for everything Skylar touches, and Alina’s sudden ability to wake up inside of Skylar’s body, if only for a few minutes. After Alina finally forces her will and switches bodies with Skylar, harsh realities surface. The holes in Skylar’s relationship with Darren are exposed, and Skylar herself becomes seduced by the idea of living two lives at once, and loving two men at once. Grace might be able to save them, but everything Skylar and Alina know about love has to change. When their comets return, these three women must choose their fate once more.
