Blog Tour & Giveaway: Sun Damage by Nikki Rae

I received a copy of Sun Damage in exchange for my review.

Having almost died Sophie wakes up changed from Myles' bite. But her body adjusts in ways that are unexpected and never before seen by Myles or any of the other vampires about. And though it seemed as if Michael would leave her be now, that doesn't seem to be the case, and with his memories haunting her dreams Sophie finds it more and more difficult to escape him. On top of that her brother, Jade, is still mourning the loss of his fiancee Stevie, and her relationship with Myles is put under strain when he reveals things that have been kept from her.

Firstly I was super excited to read Sun Damage in the first place because I enjoyed the other two books so much. Secondly, due to my final year dissertation this is the first book that I have read in 3 days (I couldn't believe it either!) so just having the written word in front of me (particularly in English rather than French) had me excited!

I wasn't disappointed, surprised about the turn of events, but not disappointed! The ending wasn't quite what I wanted, as sweet and happy as it was, and I would be interested to find out how things went from there for Myles and Sophie and what the future choices might hold. The ending before the epilogue worked well though, I really liked it and thought that it worked in line with who Sophie was as a person.

I must admit spending most of the first half of the book wanting to bang Myles and Sophie's heads together, they clearly still loved each other despite their problems and yet they couldn't seem to be near each other successfully (though it was realistic, and for the record I would be exactly the same if my real life friends acted similarly...without the vampirism that is).

One of the main quests in the book was to discover why Sophie was reacting to the change differently, and why she couldn't seem to hold down blood...this is just about the only part of the book where my record of working out the answers holds, and I guessed from fairly early on what it was Sophie would need. But it was extremely interesting to have a story like this that focused on how a vampire would feel about drinking blood if their instincts didn't kick in.

This is such an enjoyable series, well worth a look if you are willing to read about some of the darker sides of human nature (and yes there are darker human issues than vampire issues in the book).

Sun Damage Synopsis:
Life wasn't what Sophie was expecting, so why should death be any different?
She’s come back from swimming between the two, and every problem she left is still there. And then some.
There’s the human world, where she has a brother on the verge of ruins, band mates all set to go on tour, and people she thought she wouldn't be seeing for a long time showing up.
Then there’s her new world, where she’s seeing and hearing things that should not be heard or seen. Where Myles knows more about her than she could have ever guessed. She still doesn't know exactly why Michael is tormenting her, but somehow, everything is connected.
The monsters are closing in on all sides and the question is, will Sophie be able to defeat them before it all ends?
