Book Blitz & Giveaway: The Perimeter by Shalini Boland

The Perimeter is the third book in the Outside series, the first two of which I have previously received from the author. I received a copy of The Perimeter as a part of this blog blitz.

Riley has once more returned to the safety of the perimeter, but after Grey's march south there are fewer and fewer supplies for people to get hold of which is causing wide spread panic and confusion. When Riley runs an errand that she shouldn't, she runs into Liss and Annabelle who tell her that FJ is on his way, and that he has a personal vendetta against Riley. The people of the perimeter start to prepare for battle, not knowing whether they will win, or if they will lose everything they once had.

I couldn't put this book down! I thought that the other two in the series were brilliant, but then this one took it to a whole new level. There was a high level of suspense throughout, and of course there was the added will they/won't they of Luc and Riley!

Before I get onto my proper review, I'd just like to draw your attention back to the cover, isn't it stunning! I think that its the best cover of the three!

Anyway, on to what I should be writing! The main difference that I noticed between this book and the previous two was that the view point switch was slightly different. Whereas in Outside and The Clearing the point of view changed between Riley and another female character (Riley's Mother and Liss respectively), in The Perimeter you got the point of view of a male character, Jamie/Jacob (they are the same person, it makes sense if you've read The Clearing!) alternating with Riley. I thought that this did add something different, mainly because his priorities were different to any of the female characters, and his main focus was on surviving. He also seemed to be an easier victim of Grey's philosophy compared to any of the younger characters (that also includes Luc, not just the girls!)

The antagonist from the previous books, Grey, did change to FJ in this book (from the beginning so I'm not spoiling anything!) and I think that that did add something else, particularly as FJ had very different motives from Grey, and I suspect that most readers would find them much less noble. FJ is important though because he proves that not all of the young children captured by Grey are able to resist him, like his sister Liss.

Riley and Luc. Need mentioning but I don't want to spoil anything! Basically at some points I wanted to bang their heads together and yell at them that they loved each other, get with it! Though there may have been some cheering at one point (I was in public as well, got a few funny looks!)

This series is fantastic, there are multi-dimensional characters, a deep and complex plot, suspense and a believable ending, what more could you want from a book! Well a series but still!
