Ariella is one of seven princesses, and the least likely to behave in a proper manner. Always having been curious about the lives of the common people, Ariella introduces herself to one of the gardeners as Ella. Though their friendship blossoms, there is more between Ella and Gavin than could be deemed appropriate, and when Ella is threatened by the prospect of marriage from a foreign Prince, Gavin is the only one who can see the truth. Can the young couple find love when the odds, and Ella's family, are against it?
This is one of those books that I have wanted to read since I discovered its existence! The idea of such a lovely and uncorrupted fairy tale really appealed to me, because that is what Just Ella is, its an innocent, fun romance, about how a member of royalty and a commoner fall in love. Basically, this book is my sappy side coming out!
For a princess, I thought that Ella had a particularly strong brand of courage, she knew what she wanted, and when she could she went and got it, except for in circumstances where she thought she was doing the best for someone else. But she wasn't infallible, in fact Ella made mistakes, and paid the price for her mistakes. She then had to rectify them, which didn't happen magically.
Basically, to me at least, Ella was human, really human. It was mentioned that people told her she was beautiful, but it wasn't made a big deal of, and she wasn't particularly vain or privileged, she is more or less the classic Princess who doesn't want to be a princess.
Her relationship with Gavin seemed to progress at a pretty decent speed, and by decent speed, I mean that i was realistic. They were friends and then they started to feel more, and then after a bit they were kind of together (ish). But more importantly, when things went wrong, Ella acted like a teenage girl would react, and that is the difference between fairy tale characters and believable fairy tale characters.
All in all this is a happy, easy, romantic read, that will have any girl turning pages...well any girl who's ever secretly wanted to be a princess anyway!
